With former NBA standout Shaun Livingston on hand, the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team shot 55 percent from the field as it raced to an 83-54 victory over Oakton on Saturday afternoon at John M. Lewis Gymnasium in the Chargers’ home opener.

Sandburg (2-0), which shot 58 percent overall in its season-opening win Tuesday at Moraine Valley, hit on 33 of its 60 attempts Saturday against the Owls (1-2) for a 55 percent mark. The Chargers finished 7 of 15 from 3-point range.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Sandburg scored the first seven points of the game, and a 3-pointer from freshman Brock Bower-Preece (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs) put the Chargers ahead 14-2 just 6 minutes in.

A turnaround shot by freshman forward Cody Baer (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap), followed by a three-point play and steal-and-layup from sophomore Noah Young (Colfax, Ill./Ridgeview) put the Chargers ahead 29-14 with 7:33 before halftime.
